On Tuesday in Faridpur, Bareilly, a loan recovery attempt turned violent when a recovery agent was attacked while trying to collect loan dues from a State Bank of India (SBI) customer.
This is not the first case of attack against loan recovery agents. Earlier also, SBI loan recovery team was attacked near Gwalior Madhya Pradesh.
In Bareilly, the agent managed to escape by running away and later reached the police station with bank officials to file a complaint.
According to the complaint lodged by recovery agent Aman Chaudhary, a resident of Mohalla Chaudhary Gulab Nagar in Bareilly, the SBI Regional Office in Bareilly had appointed PP Enterprises for loan recovery work, and he is employed by that firm.
On Tuesday afternoon, around 2 p.m., Aman, along with his assistant Ajay Pal from village Dhakni Rajpuri under Faridpur police station, went to the home of Shakoor Khan in village Khimpura. Khan is a loan account holder of SBI’s Faridpur branch and had failed to repay his loan.
When the loan recovery agent visited the loan borrower, two of his sons confronted him and assaulted him. Fearing for his safety, he fled the village and returned to the bank.
Faridpur Police Station Inspector Radheshyam confirmed that Aman has filed a complaint alleging assault and death threats. The police have begun investigating the incident and more details will be released soon.
