A major theft was reported from Khajurla village near Haveli in Jalandhar, where miscreants uprooted and stole an SBI ATM machine during the night. The incident came to light on Thursday morning, following which villagers informed the police.
Police said that the ATM cameras were not working and that there was no security guard deployed at the booth. According to villagers, the ATM was located in Khajurla village and was uprooted by the robbers at night and taken away. The sarpanch said he received a phone call about the incident in the morning and immediately informed the police.

People in the area alleged that the ATM had poor security arrangements. The bank has so far not clarified how much cash was inside the ATM or how much money the thieves managed to steal. No official information has been shared with the police or the Panchayat regarding the cash amount.
Villagers also claimed that similar incidents have occurred earlier in the area, but bank management has not taken security seriously. Although CCTV cameras were installed at the ATM booth, their functioning is now under question.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and started an investigation. Based on the sarpanch’s statement, the police have begun the process of registering a case. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the accused.
Local residents have accused the bank management of negligence and have demanded stronger security measures at ATM centres to prevent such incidents in the future.
