This incident came to light when the branch manager checked the cash in the branch. The incident took place in the SBI Pehowa branch. The branch manager filed an FIR against the cashier and accountant.

During the routine inspection on November 18 at around 9:30 am, bin number 26 of the currency chest was checked. According to bank records, the bin should have contained 90 bundles of ₹500 notes (with 1,000 notes in each bundle). However, only 82 bundles were found.

The missing eight bundles resulted in a shortage of ₹40 lakh. The manager questioned cash officer Ravi Kumar and accountant Karan Pal, who were responsible for the currency chest and also held its keys.

When both employees failed to give clear answers, the branch manager checked the CCTV footage. The footage showed that the remaining bundles were not properly checked after the last withdrawal on November 10. Both employees are suspected of working together to hide the missing cash.
