RBI releases schedule of meeting of Monetary Policy Committee 2026-27
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released schedule of meeting of monetary policy committee. Dates of meetings of Monetary Policy Committee for 2026-27 are as follows:
- April 6, 7 and 8, 2026
- June 3, 4 and 5, 2026
- August 3, 4 and 5, 2026
- October 5, 6 and 7, 2026
- December 2, 3 and 4, 2026
- February 3, 4 and 5, 2027
Let’s Learn about Monetary Policy Committee
The Monetary Policy Committee is responsible for fixing the benchmark interest rate in India. The meetings of the Monetary Policy Committee are held at least four times a year (specifically, at least once a quarter) and it publishes its decisions after each such meeting.
The committee comprises six members – three officials of the Reserve Bank of India and three external members nominated by the Government of India. They need to observe a “silent period” seven days before and after the rate decision for “utmost confidentiality”. The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India is the chairperson ex officio of the committee.
The composition of the current monetary policy committee is as follows:
- Governor of the Reserve Bank of India – Chairperson, ex officio – Sanjay Malhotra
- Deputy Governor of the Bank in charge of monetary policy – Poonam Gupta
- Executive Director of the Bank in charge of monetary policy – Indranil Bhattacharyya
- Ram Singh, Director, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.
- Saugata Bhattacharya, Economist.
- Nagesh Kumar, Director and Chief Executive, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, New Delhi.
