Rajasthan Government asks RBI to open all Banks on Holidays in Border Areas due to Emergency Situation

Jaipur, May 9, 2025 — In light of an emergency situation near the international border, the Government of Rajasthan has asked all banks operating in seven key districts near the border to remain open on public holidays this week. The order is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted banking services for citizens living in these sensitive areas.

In an official letter sent to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Akhil Arora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department, requested that branches of all banks in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Shri Ganganagar, Phalodi, Hanumangarh, and Jodhpur continue operations on May 10 and May 11, 2025, even though these dates are public holidays.

The decision was made due to an “emergent situation” at the International Border of India, which requires constant access to essential banking services, especially in border districts. These services include transactions, withdrawals, fund transfers, and access to financial aid or emergency funds.

The letter emphasizes that it is important for banks to function normally during these days so that people living in these regions do not face inconvenience. This is especially important for those dependent on regular banking services for their daily needs and for any emergency-related financial transactions.

Copies of the order were also sent to:

  • The Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, New Delhi
  • The Regional Director of RBI in Jaipur
  • The General Manager of the State Level Banker’s Committee (SLBC), Jaipur

The Finance Department’s request highlights the importance of continuous public service in critical regions, especially during uncertain or emergency times. Officials hope that this proactive step will help maintain stability and support for citizens in the border districts of Rajasthan.
