Punjab National Bank (PNB) has issued a notice directing all its branches and offices to remain operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026, for the convenience of customers.
The decision has been taken in view of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and other unions from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
According to the notice, the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), through its communication dated September 23, informed PNB that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), through its communication dated September 22, had permitted the bank to keep its branches, offices, ATM link branches and currency chests fully operational on Sunday, September 27, to meet customers’ banking requirements.
PNB has directed all its branches and offices to remain operational on Sunday to minimise inconvenience to customers during the proposed strike. Over-the-counter banking services will be provided to customers to the extent operationally feasible.
However, clearing transactions, retirement of bills and negotiations under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 will not be undertaken on that day.
The notice also directs SLBCs and field officials to inform the concerned local authorities well in advance about the opening of branches on Sunday.
PNB has further instructed that all applicable provisions of the Shops and Establishments Act and other statutory requirements must be strictly followed.
All Zonal Offices and Controlling Offices have been advised to make the necessary arrangements to ensure smooth banking operations and customer convenience on Sunday.
The bank has directed all concerned officials to ensure strict compliance with the instructions.
