Chandpur: In a significant development in Bijnor, Kamil Hussain, the head cashier at Punjab National Bank’s Shivala Kalan branch, has been arrested by the local police. Hussain is accused of embezzling a staggering amount of Rs 2 crore 83 lakh through fraudulent activities and tampering with bank accounts.

The scandal first came to light around two months ago when Bajrangi Lal, the manager of the Shivala Kalan branch, filed a complaint with the police. According to the report, Hussain had been dishonest with the deposits made by account holders. Instead of depositing the money into the accounts as required, he allegedly kept the funds for himself.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation into the matter. Despite this, no significant action was taken initially, even after additional complaints were filed by affected account holders and supported by a local farmers’ union. In response to the lack of progress, the farmers’ union organized a sit-in protest at the police station, demanding prompt action.

The protests and mounting pressure eventually led to Kamil Hussain’s arrest on Friday by the Shivala Kalan police. Authorities have stated that Hussain is currently being questioned about the embezzlement charges. The case has highlighted serious concerns about banking fraud and the need for vigilant oversight to protect customers’ interests.
