On Sunday – 27 September 2026, all the branches of Public Sector Banks were open all across India.

Banks were opened by Government of India on Sunday – 27 September, due to 3-day strike from 28 to 30 September 2026.

This is in the history of Indian Banking, that public sector banks were opened on Sunday due to non-emergency work.

Following the demonetisation announcement on November 8, 2016, the RBI ordered all banks across India to remain open on Sunday, November 13, 2016. This was done to handle the massive, unprecedented crowds rushing to exchange discontinued ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes.

It is common practice for the RBI to order specific bank branches—particularly those handling government tax collections and over-the-counter government transactions—to remain open on the last Sunday of March.

But this is the first time in history, that public sector banks opened in India for non-emergency work.
