In a shocking incident in Kerala, police have started an investigation after a temporary cashier at the Kacheripadavu branch of the Anapanthy Service Cooperative Bank allegedly ran away with gold ornaments worth around ₹60 lakh. The incident was discovered on the morning of May 2, when the branch manager arrived at the bank to open the office.
When the manager unlocked the premises, he found a bag, mobile phone, and a handwritten list left behind inside the office. These items are believed to belong to the accused, identified as Sudheer Thomas, who is now missing.
18 Packets of Gold Reported Missing
Soon after the discovery, the bank staff checked the gold stored in the bank and realized that 18 packets of gold ornaments were missing. Following this, the bank’s secretary, Aneesh Mathew, filed a formal complaint with the police. According to the complaint, the stolen gold included jewelry that may have belonged to Sudheer’s own wife.
To make matters worse, the missing gold had been replaced with a fake gold necklace, raising suspicions that Sudheer had planned the theft carefully to avoid immediate detection.
Police Investigation Underway
After the complaint was filed, the police visited the bank and carried out an inspection. Their inspection confirmed that gold was indeed missing. The Iritty police have started a detailed investigation into the incident. Early findings suggest that Sudheer might not have acted alone and could have stolen the gold for someone else.
Police believe the fake necklace was placed in the bank’s locker to act as a decoy, making it look like all the jewelry was still there. Authorities have already taken one person into custody for questioning and are searching for Sudheer, who is currently on the run.
Investigators suspect that more people may be involved in the case. Since Sudheer worked as a temporary cashier, he likely had access to the bank’s gold storage. Police are looking into whether anyone inside or outside the bank helped him carry out the alleged theft.
The police are continuing their efforts to track down Sudheer and recover the stolen gold, while also questioning other employees and people linked to the case.
