Bareilly: In Mirganj, a farmer who went to deposit his loan amount at a bank was not allowed to enter. The farmer, named Sohan Lal, has filed a complaint with the District Magistrate (DM) against the branch manager, accusing him of misconduct. Sohan Lal is demanding appropriate action to be taken in response to the incident.

Background of the Incident

Sohan Lal, the affected farmer, is the son of Lakhansingh and resides in Karampur. Four years ago, he had taken an agricultural loan from the Punjab National Bank branch located at Mirganj-Sindholi Chowk. On Monday at 2 p.m., Sohan Lal arrived at the bank to repay the loan amount. However, he found the bank gate closed upon his arrival. He requested the branch manager to open the gate so that he could complete the transaction. Unfortunately, the branch manager responded inappropriately, using offensive language towards Sohan Lal. Even though there have been incidents of robbery in the past, the farmer was not allowed to enter the bank premises.

Bank’s Explanation for Denying Entry

The branch manager explained that Sohan Lal’s account had become a non-performing asset (NPA), as he had not made any deposits after taking the loan. Sohan Lal was accompanied by 6-7 individuals who were interested in purchasing his land. According to banking regulations, information about the account holder’s account cannot be disclosed to anyone other than the account holder. The branch manager asserts that the allegations made by the farmer are baseless and that the bank followed proper protocols.
