The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is actively preparing to strengthen its connections with the industry, research endeavors, and skills development by partnering with Japanese industries and universities. NITC has formalized two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Japanese counterparts in the academic and industrial sectors, aimed at advancing technology and research.

These collaborations with Japanese academia and industry are anticipated to bolster skills development and employability through enhancement programs, as stated by Prasad Krishna, the Director of NIT Calicut. He is currently leading a delegation from NITC on a visit to Japan. He underscored that these MoUs will facilitate and expedite collaborative research, educational efforts, field studies, and consultancy projects within India, Japan, and other nations.

The discussions between NITC and their Japanese counterparts have laid the groundwork for these MoUs under the Indo-Japan Collaboration, with the aim of promoting skill development and human resource exchange programs. NITC has entered into MoUs with India Japan Laboratory at Keio University, as well as NehaN Technologies K.K in Japan.

The NITC student community stands to gain substantial benefits from this collaboration, as they will have the opportunity to engage in research and project work in Japan, according to Prasad Krishna. Moreover, collaborative initiatives with Japanese industries and academia will enable them to harness advanced technologies and better prepare for careers in their respective fields.

The MoU with India Japan Laboratory at Keio University will concentrate on developing case studies and fostering joint publications, research papers, and reports. The partners envision hosting real-time and virtual webinars, seminars, workshops, and conferences on emerging technologies, along with the exchange of training resources.

These initiatives will not only encourage research and development collaborations and faculty exchanges but also facilitate the exchange of students for skill development and provide opportunities for startups incubated at NITC to interact with the Japanese industry.

The MoU between NITC and NehaN Technologies K.K in Japan focuses on campus support and industrial training for NITC students in Japan. This collaboration will also promote infrastructure facilities like incubation centers at NITC and ensure ongoing joint projects, awareness programs, exhibitions, and related activities. Discussions are underway to jointly establish an offshore NITC-Japan Skill Center that will coordinate with Japanese academia and industries to create opportunities for NITC students in terms of internships and career development, as outlined in the MoU.
