The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested contract driver Adesh Chaudhary in connection with 17.29 crore rupees in counterfeit currency notes found in the Punjab National Bank currency chest in Saharanpur. Adesh is a resident of New Nandpuri Colony in Saharanpur’s Qutubsher police station area and was posted on contract at the currency chest. According to the NIA, he is one of the main accused.
According to the NIA, on August 29, it received information about the discovery of counterfeit Indian currency notes worth ₹17.29 crore at a currency chest in Saharanpur. During the investigation, three bank employees were suspended after their involvement was discovered.
After the NIA was handed over the investigation, an FIR was registered at a Lucknow police station on September 3. The NIA investigation has revealed that, with the connivance of bank employees, counterfeit notes were not only stored in currency chests but also circulated at various locations. Consequently, it is suspected that many other individuals are involved in this network.
The NIA is investigating where the counterfeit notes were circulated and where the withdrawn genuine notes were invested. The NIA will soon take Bank Employee Amit Kumar and Aadesh on remand and interrogate them in this regard.
The investigation also revealed that on July 6th, a consignment of approximately ₹111 crore was sent from Saharanpur to the RBI’s Jaipur office. The NIA is investigating the entire process of packing, handling, delivery, and shipping this consignment. It is also suspected that this amount was deposited in the currency chest by anti-national elements. To investigate this, the mobile phones of bank employees are being scanned.
