The Indian Railways has released new rules for Tatkal Ticket Booking. These new rules will help users in booking train tickets easily.
From 1st July 2025, Indian Railways is introducing important changes to the Tatkal ticket booking system to make it more fair, secure, and transparent. These new rules are meant to stop misuse of the Tatkal scheme and make sure that genuine passengers get a fair chance to book tickets.

#1) The first big change is that from July 1, only those users who have completed Aadhaar authentication will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets online through the IRCTC website or mobile app. This means that if your IRCTC account is not linked with your Aadhaar, you will not be able to book Tatkal tickets online. Then, from July 15, 2025, this will go a step further — you will need to verify your identity through a one-time password (OTP) sent to your mobile number during the booking process. This applies to all Tatkal bookings made online.
#2) Secondly, if you are booking a Tatkal ticket at a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter or through an authorised travel agent, you will also be required to complete OTP verification from July 15, 2025. The OTP will be sent to the mobile number you provide at the time of booking. This step will help confirm that the ticket is being booked for a real person, and not being misused by agents or middlemen.
#3) Another key rule being introduced is about authorised agents. To stop agents from grabbing a large number of tickets as soon as bookings open, Indian Railways is putting a 30-minute restriction for agent bookings at the start of the Tatkal booking time each day. This means that agents cannot book AC class Tatkal tickets between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM, and non-AC class tickets between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM. This time window will be available only to individual users, giving regular passengers a better chance to book tickets.
All these changes are being implemented to make the booking process more secure and user-friendly for honest travelers. Indian Railways has instructed CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) and IRCTC to update their systems and inform all departments and railway zones about these updates.
The Ministry of Railways has requested all passengers to make sure their IRCTC accounts are linked with their Aadhaar before July 1, 2025, to avoid any issues while booking Tatkal tickets. These steps aim to ensure that the benefits of Tatkal bookings reach the right people and are not misused by agents or bots.
