New born baby sold for Rs.3 lakh in Kerala

A newborn baby was sold for Rs 3 lakh in Thiruvananthapuram. The baby was born to a young woman at the Women and Children Hospital in Thycaud on April 7 and was sold to a Karamana native for Rs 3 lakhs on April 10.

The police have retrieved the baby and the Child Welfare Committee has taken over the baby and transferred it to its facility in Thycaud. Kerala Health Minister Veena George has directed the Health department director to conduct an enquiry into the alleged sale of the newborn baby.

She also directed the Director of the Women and Child Development department to provide adequate protection for the baby.
