A 37-year-old man allegedly entered an HDFC Bank branch in Kilpauk and attacked his estranged wife with a sharp weapon on Saturday evening. The woman suffered serious injuries in the attack.
Victim Was Working as Cashier at Bank
According to police, the victim, Rebecca, 28, is a resident of Perambur and has been working as a cashier at the bank for the past six months.
Rebecca married Satheesh in 2017, and the couple had a daughter. Due to marital disputes, they separated around two years ago. After their separation, their daughter was living with Satheesh.
Accused Was Earlier Arrested in Daughter’s Murder Case
According to police, in July 2025, Satheesh allegedly killed his daughter by slitting her throat and then attempted to take his own life. The incident took place within the limits of the St. Thomas Mount police station. Police rescued Satheesh, registered a murder case against him, and arrested him. He was subsequently lodged in prison in connection with the case.
Accused Released from Prison Last Week
Satheesh was reportedly released from prison last week. At around 6.25 p.m. on Saturday, while Rebecca was working at the bank, he allegedly entered the branch carrying a knife and a can of petrol. He allegedly attacked Rebecca with the knife, causing injuries to her head and left hand.
People Inside Bank Caught the Accused
People present inside the bank intervened and reportedly hit Satheesh with an iron chair before restraining him. They then informed the police about the incident. Police reached the bank and took Satheesh to the police station.
Woman Admitted to Hospital in Critical Condition
Rebecca was taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. According to police sources, she is undergoing treatment and her condition is reported to be critical.
