Moradabad: A case of embezzlement of lakhs of rupees has come to light at the Punjab National Bank branch in Civil Lines. Police have registered an FIR against the accused head cashier and have begun investigating the matter.
Sunny Bharti, a resident of Kotwali Qazi Sarai Jatav Basti Vikas Manzil, is posted as head cashier at Punjab National Bank in Civil Lines.
He is accused of embezzling ₹2.2 million from the bank. Bank Manager Ankur Kulhari filed a complaint with the police.
An internal investigation by the bank had revealed signs of financial irregularities. A subsequent investigation was conducted, and a scrutiny of the accounts confirmed the embezzlement.
The allegation is that the cashier embezzled 22.39 lakh rupees from the bank account of UPSRTC but did not deposit it in the bank account.
Ankur Kulhari, branch manager of Punjab National Bank in Civil Lines, informed the police that Sunny Bharti was the cashier in his office. An official from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) Moradabad depot filed a complaint against the cashier on May 5. He stated that the deposited funds were not reflected in the account.
When the branch manager conducted a departmental investigation, it was revealed that the Moradabad depot had given the cashier ₹18,18,716 on April 18 and ₹4,20,808 on April 29 for deposit. The roadways employee also has receipts for a total of ₹22,39,524. Sunny Bharti was on duty as cashier on both days.
The bank records did not show the amount deposited on both days. The accused bank cashier, Sunny Bharti, is a resident of Jatav Basti near Vikas Manzil Qazi Sarai.
Finally, the cashier tampered with the bank records and updated them on the system on May 5, but the money was not there in the bank records. During the investigation, a shortage of Rs 3,99,918.12 was found in the total bank balance.
Police is investigating the case and more details will be released soon.
