Karnataka Bank Appoints Dr. M. Aruna Shyam as Additional Independent Director
Karnataka Bank has appointed Dr. M. Aruna Shyam as an Additional Director in the category of Non-Executive Independent Director. His appointment is for a period of four years and is effective from July 18, 2026.
Educational Background
Dr. M. Aruna Shyam has a postgraduate degree in Business Law and also holds a Doctorate in Law with specialization in Constitutional and Criminal Law.
Professional Experience
Dr. Aruna Shyam has been practicing law since 2004. During his career, he has appeared before Civil Courts, various Tribunals, Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs), the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the High Court of Karnataka, and the Supreme Court of India. He has more than 20 years of experience in several areas of law, including Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Corporate, Banking, Labour, Insurance, Co-operative, and Service Laws.
Previous Government Role
From 2020 to 2023, Dr. Aruna Shyam served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Karnataka. In this role, he represented the State in important constitutional, statutory, and public law matters before the High Court and other judicial forums.
Senior Advocate and Board Strength
Dr. Aruna Shyam was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Karnataka on December 14, 2021. Since then, he has represented clients before various High Courts and other courts across India in complex legal cases. Karnataka Bank stated that his appointment will strengthen the Bank’s Board by adding his extensive legal knowledge and professional experience.
