Indian Bank Puducherry Zone orders Branch Managers to do work of Junior Post to understand Banking better

Indian Bank’s Zonal Office in Puducherry has announced a mandatory on-the-job training program for all branch managers under its jurisdiction. This initiative aims to enhance their operational expertise and familiarity with daily branch procedures, including ATM and BNA operations.

The decision follows directions received from the Field General Manager (FGM) Office in Chennai, which emphasized the need to improve the functional knowledge of branch managers in key operational areas.

Training Schedule:

  1. Role as Assistant Branch Manager (ABM):
    Branch managers will assume the responsibilities of the ABM’s position for five working days, from January 9 to January 18, 2025.
  2. ATM/BNA Operations:
    Managers will be trained in handling the loading and End-of-Day (EOD) operations of ATMs and BNAs for another five working days, from January 20 to January 24, 2025.

This structured training program is designed to strengthen operational knowledge at the branch level. The managers are required to submit a compliance certificate confirming their participation and understanding of the training by January 24, 2025.

Objective of the Program:

The training is expected to ensure that branch managers are better equipped to handle the day-to-day operational challenges at their branches. It also focuses on improving the functional handling of ATM/BNA operations, which are critical to customer service and smooth banking operations.

The Deputy Zonal Manager of the Puducherry Zone issued the official communication to all branch managers, urging them to actively participate in this initiative.

  1. Good initiative, every employee should be in a position to handle the situation as circumstances warrant. It is not the question of clerical or supervisory staff. In today’s banking scenario and because of staff shortage, the move enhances smooth running of branch and I appreciate it very much

  2. Without knowing the junior level banking operations how they are promoting and posting branch manager. Very basic question arising. I think bank management don’t have knowledge for promoting officer into higher scale and don’t have future plan for HR management. We can compare indian bank management and BCCI both are functioning same direction.

  3. On the job training should be provided for new managers for Branch operation.Previously Officers would work in Branch operations & then became Manager.However one week training will not serve the purpose .
