
Gurugram Police have arrested two individuals, including an ICICI Bank employee, for defrauding people in the name of investment. These cyber fraudsters provided bank accounts for scams involving investments in the stock market. So far, Gurugram Police have arrested 16 bank employees in various cyber fraud cases.
On February 29, 2024, an individual filed a complaint at Cyber Police Station, Manesar, Gurugram, stating that they were defrauded of approximately ₹25.5 lakh through an app promising good returns on stock market investments. Based on this complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections.
Under the directions of HPS Priyanshu Diwan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime), Gurugram, Inspector Sunil Kumar, Manager of Cyber Crime Police Station, Manesar, along with ASI Vijaypal, Head Constable Rakesh Kumar, and Constable Rakesh, conducted raids in three districts of Punjab: Sangrur, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib, to apprehend the accused.
During the raids, two accused were arrested from Punjab. The accused were identified as Harpreet Singh from Sector-24B, Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab) and Devendra Singh from village Nohra, Patiala (Punjab). During this police operation, Home Guard Rampal Singh from Bhawanigarh Police Station, Sangrur District, Punjab, played a commendable role in assisting the Cyber Police Team from Manesar, Gurugram in capturing the accused.
Police revealed that ₹25 lakh of the defrauded amount was deposited in a bank account belonging to accused Devendra. Devendra had sold this bank account to accused Harpreet for ₹10,000, who then sold it to another associate for ₹20,000. Harpreet works at ICICI Bank in Mandi Gobindgarh. Harpreet was presented in court and has been taken into police custody for two days for further interrogation.
