A school principal in Himachal Pradesh faced embarrassment after a cheque he issued for ₹7,616 was rejected by the bank. The reason was obvious spelling mistakes in the amount written in words.

The cheque, signed on 25 September by the principal of Government Senior Secondary School in Ronhat, Sirmaur district, had the correct numbers. But the amount in words was written as: “Saven Thursday six Harendra sixty rupees.”

The cheque had the school stamp and the principal’s name, Alter Singh. However, the bank did not process it, and the cheque bounced. Soon, a photo of the cheque appeared on social media and went viral.

The incident drew mockery online. Many users questioned the quality of education in state-run schools.

For some, the issue was not the money but the embarrassment. Social media users pointed out that if a senior secondary school principal confused “Thursday” with “Thousand” and “Harendra” with “Hundred,” it raised concerns about what students were learning.

The bank finally rejected the cheque, forcing the school to issue a corrected one. By then, the viral photo had already made a routine payment a nationwide lesson in grammar.

User Reactions on Social Media

Users are criticizing the Government for recruiting such people in education system. If principal is not educated, then how will he teach students.
