A shocking case of theft has come to light in Gurugram, Haryana, where more than ₹10 lakh in cash was stolen from an Axis Bank ATM located near Rico Auto Industries on the Delhi-Jaipur NH-48 highway. What makes this case even more surprising is that the ATM machine was not damaged at all during the theft.

Where and When Did the Theft Happen?

The incident took place on the night of April 30, 2025, at an Axis Bank ATM situated on the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway, near Rico Auto Industries in Gurugram. The theft came to light after the cash collection team visited the ATM and noticed the missing amount.

How Was the Cash Stolen Without Breaking the Machine?

According to the complaint filed by Gaurav Kumar Bainsla from Hitachi Payment Services, the company that maintains ATMs for various banks including Axis Bank, the thieves withdrew over ₹10 lakh by accessing the cash cassette inside the ATM.

Surprisingly, the ATM machine was not physically broken or damaged. Experts believe the thieves had technical knowledge of the ATM system and possibly knew passwords or internal access methods. This points towards the possibility of an insider’s involvement or a well-planned cyber-physical crime.

How Did They Avoid Getting Caught on Camera?

To hide their actions, the thieves also disabled the ATM’s video recording system. They stole the DVR (Digital Video Recorder), along with other internal parts like the battery, hard disk, PC core, and chest lock. As a result, there is no security footage from the ATM itself that can help identify them.

However, the Sadar Police have started checking nearby CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area to trace any suspicious activity or movement during the time of the theft.

FIR Registered and Police Investigation Underway

After receiving a complaint from the legal representative of the ATM service provider, the Sadar Police Station registered an FIR and started the investigation. The police have involved technical experts to analyze how the ATM was accessed without setting off alarms or causing any damage.

SHO Sunil, from Sadar Police Station, stated that the case is unusual because the ATM machine looks completely intact, yet the money was withdrawn. He said that the team is working with technical experts to crack the method used in this high-tech theft.

Police believe that the crime was well-planned, and the culprits may have had detailed knowledge of both the ATM security system and internal setup.
