Govt orders PSU Banks to conduct meetings with minority unions
The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has ordered public sector banks to conduct meetings with minority unions also. Right now, the management of public sector banks conducts meetings only with majority unions. Majority unions are the unions having more members, while minority unions have fewer members.
On 10.07.2026, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) were advised to institutionalise IR Meetings with all the recognised Unions/Associations with a view to providing a regular and structured platform for constructive arrangements and to maintain harmony in industrial relations.

PSBs were also advised to issue a calendar every year in advance for such meetings. Further, from the calendar issued by the Banks, it has been observed that PSBs have scheduled the IR meetings only with the majority Union/Association in the Bank.
Public Sector Banks are advised that, in addition to scheduling IR Meetings with the majority Unions/Associations, they may earmark one day in each quarter, separately for Officers, Workmen and Welfare categories, for interaction with recognised minority Unions/Associations. All recognised minority Unions/Associations in the respective category may be invited together for interaction on the designated day. Accordingly, PSBs may incorporate the above in their calendar and share the revised calendar with this Department, latest by 05.08.2026. Further, PSBs are advised to submit a quarterly compliance report to this Department.
