Government Extends Tenure of IOB Executive Director Joydeep Dutta Roy by 3 Years

The Central Government has approved the extension of the tenure of Shri Joydeep Dutta Roy, Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB).

According to the official notification issued on 15th September 2025, Shri Dutta Roy’s term has been extended for three more years beyond 20th October 2025, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

Shri Joydeep Dutta Roy, born on 1st July 1972, has been serving as Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank and has played a key role in the bank’s management and growth. The extension comes under the provisions of the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970 and the Nationalized Banks (Management and Miscellaneous Provisions) Scheme, 1970, as amended in November 2022.

About Joydeep Dutta Roy – Executive Director, Indian Overseas Bank

Shri Joydeep Dutta Roy assumed charge as Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank on 31st January 2024. He is a seasoned banker with nearly 28 years of experience, having started his career with Bank of Baroda in 1996.

Over the years, he has played a key role in driving major initiatives and transformation projects at Bank of Baroda. Some of the notable projects he led include:

• Project BOBNOWW – a bank-wide transformation initiative
• Project Navnirmaan – a business process re-engineering project
• Project Udaan – focused on institutional growth
• SPARSH – a comprehensive HR transformation project
• We-Lead – a customised leadership development programme
• Baroda GEMS – a digital performance management tool

In his career at Bank of Baroda, Shri Dutta Roy served in various leadership positions such as Head of HR, Regional Head for Dehradun and Bareilly, and Head of Integration during the amalgamation of Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda. Later, he was promoted to Chief General Manager in the Office of the MD & CEO, where he handled strategy formulation, implementation, reviews, and oversight of subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Recognising his contributions, the Government of India appointed him as Executive Director of Bank of Baroda on 21st October 2021. In this role, he was responsible for multiple key portfolios including Retail Banking, Wealth Management, NRI Business, Risk, Finance, HRM, IT & Digital, Audit, Compliance, Credit Monitoring, Collections, Operations & Services, and Enterprise Data Management.

Apart from his executive roles, Shri Dutta Roy has served on the boards of several institutions such as National e-Governance Services Ltd (NeSL), PSB Alliance Ltd, IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company Ltd, The Nainital Bank Ltd, Baroda Global Shared Services Ltd, BOB Cards Ltd, and Bank of Baroda Tanzania Ltd. He was also the Non-Executive Chairman of Baroda BNP Paribas Asset India Pvt Ltd and Bank of Baroda (UK) Ltd.

Academically, Shri Dutta Roy holds an Honours degree in Economics from Delhi University, a Law degree, and an MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai.
