Kudos! There is a big good news for Agriculture Officers and Technical Officers in Punjab National Bank. On the demand of AIPNBOA (All India Punjab National Bank Officers Association), the management of PNB has agreed to recruit candidates state-wise.

Over the years, many of the Agriculture Officers and other Technical Officers have faced serious difficulties after being posted in regions where the local language is unfamiliar. For example, an officer from Kerala posted in Odisha, or someone from Pune posted in Punjab, often struggles to read and understand land records and other official documents, which are written in the local language. This language barrier makes their work harder and also creates challenges when it comes to returning to their home state.

Recognizing this issue, AIPNBOA has been regularly requesting the management to improve the recruitment process for these specialized roles. Specifically, AIPNBOA asked that:

  • Vacancies for Agriculture Officers and certain Technical positions should be announced state-wise or language-wise.
  • Applications should be invited from across the country to follow Supreme Court guidelines, but candidates applying for a specific state should also be tested in the local language of that state.

This new recruitment policy also aligns with the latest guidelines issued by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) regarding transfers in Public Sector Banks. According to the DFS directive, officers up to Scale III should be posted in regions where they are familiar with the local language. In other words, an officer should be posted in a state where they can understand and communicate in the local language, ensuring better efficiency and service. [Check New Guidelines Here]

AIPNBOA informed its members that we are pleased to share that after continuous follow-up, the management has now agreed to implement this new recruitment process. From now on, Agriculture and some Technical Officer roles will be filled through this method. This move is expected to:

  • Make it easier for officers to work efficiently in their assigned regions.
  • Ensure better understanding of local land records and documentation.
  • Allow officers a smoother path to return to their home states in the future.
  • Improve the overall system and reduce language-related challenges across the organization.

Over the next two years, this change is expected to bring major positive results for both existing employees and new recruits. This is a welcome step and a long-awaited solution to an issue that has affected many officers across the country.
