Gaddam Rahul, a former assistant engineer of Mission Bhagiratha, who is wanted for cheating people out of Rs. 8 crore, was apprehended at Delhi airport while attempting to flee the country. Another suspect, Gokari Sreevani, a deputy executive engineer, is currently on the run, while Tankasaka Sai Dharani has already escaped to the United States.
According to the police, Rahul, who was stationed at the Keesera division panchayat raj office in 2022, collected Rs. 8 crore from contractors by promising them work orders. He and his accomplices used the money for gambling, as stated by Keesara inspector K. Venkataiah.
Rahul forged and falsified work orders worth Rs. 5 lakh and received commissions of up to Rs. 3.5 lakh from each contractor, explained Venkataiah. Rahul convinced Sai Dharani to authorize him to operate her account, and she agreed to transfer the proceeds of the fraud to him, added the inspector.
“We received a complaint from contractor Govind R. Daliya and several others who were deceived by Rahul,” stated Venkataiah. “During our investigation, we discovered that Rahul had embezzled Rs. 8 crore from numerous unsuspecting individuals. We arrested him at the Delhi airport on March 10 as he was attempting to flee to the United States.”
Rahul was brought back to the city and presented before a court on Monday. “We have issued a lookout circular for Sai Dharani, who is currently in the US. We are actively working towards apprehending Gokari Sreevani,” the inspector concluded.
