There has been a growing issue of fake currency being circulated in the Kotwali police station area, with two incidents coming to light recently. The most recent incident is especially concerning because all the counterfeit notes had nearly identical serial numbers. Last month, a young man was caught trying to deposit fake notes in an ATM, causing the machine to sound an alarm. This alerted the bank staff, and the matter was quickly reported to the police. In both cases, the police have registered complaints against the individuals depositing the fake currency and have started investigating the source of these counterfeit notes. However, many are questioning where these fake notes are coming from and why the police have not yet been able to catch the culprits.
The latest incident occurred at Indian Bank, located in the Kotwali police station area, when a farmer named Suryansh Singh Baghel, who lives in Jamui village, came to deposit money. Suryansh had sold his crops and was depositing the proceeds, which amounted to one lakh rupees. Upon counting the notes, bank employees discovered that 11 of the 500-rupee notes were counterfeit. What made the situation more alarming was that all 11 fake notes had the same serial number. The bank staff immediately reported the matter to the police, who have now launched an investigation into the case.
Santosh Kumar, the Assistant Branch Manager of Indian Bank, explained that when Suryansh Baghel arrived to deposit one lakh rupees, the bank employees noticed the fake notes after running them through a machine. As a result, the staff notified the police, and a case was filed against Suryansh for attempting to deposit the counterfeit currency.
Suryansh’s family, who live in Jamui village in Sohagpur, explained that the farmer had leased his field to someone else. When the crops were sold, the person leasing the field gave him one lakh rupees, which he took to the bank. However, when he tried to deposit the money, the bank employees informed him that 11 of the 500-rupee notes were fake. Suryansh’s family insists that they were unaware of the counterfeit notes and is frustrated by the fact that the police have not arrested the person who gave the fake money to Suryansh.
This is not the first time fake currency has been found in the Kotwali police station area. Last month, a young man attempted to deposit counterfeit notes in an ATM located on Budhar Road. The ATM machine sounded a siren to alert the bank employees, who caught the individual in the act and informed the police. Despite the continuous incidents of fake currency being detected, the police have not yet been able to determine where these counterfeit notes are originating from.
Kotwali police officials have confirmed that a case has been filed against the young man who tried to deposit fake notes in the ATM last month. However, the police have not yet identified the source of the fake currency. Similarly, a case has been registered against Suryansh Baghel in the latest incident, and the investigation is ongoing. The authorities are trying to trace the origin of the 11 fake 500-rupee notes found in Suryansh’s deposit.
