On April 3, 100 fake Rs 500 notes were deposited into an account at ICICI Bank in Lucknow. The bank employees noticed the issue during the deposit process. Upon investigation, it was found that the money had been deposited into the Royal King Liquor account. The head of the ICMC, Sandeep Srivastava, has filed an FIR regarding this incident.

According to the Metropolitan Police, a case was filed based on Sandeep Srivastava’s complaint against the account holder of Royal King Liquor, located at Hansraj Tower NR Park in Greater Noida. The complaint states that on April 3, Rs 1.76 crore in cash was deposited into the account, which included 100 fake Rs 500 notes that were identified during the counting process.

The police have stated that a forensic investigation will be conducted on the counterfeit notes deposited in the bank. A team will also be working to trace how these fake notes ended up in the company’s hands and determine their origin.

Meanwhile, the police are also gathering information about individuals who might be circulating or supplying counterfeit currency.

Sources from the police mentioned that previously, fake or torn notes were commonly found at petrol pumps on the outskirts of the city. However, the circulation of fake currency has now increased in places like liquor shops, bars, and spa centers, where cash transactions are not closely monitored.

People have been taking advantage of this loophole. The fake Rs 500 notes deposited at the bank were the same ones that were circulated at the liquor shop. The company, unaware of the counterfeit notes, deposited them, and it was only during the bank’s verification that the fake currency was detected.
