A serious complaint has been lodged by branch heads, officers, and staff members of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the Varanasi region against their Regional Manager, Shri Saurabh Chandra, alleging misconduct, indiscipline, and the use of abusive language. The matter has been formally addressed to the SBI Chairman.

According to the complaint, ever since Saurabh Chandra assumed charge as Regional Manager of RBO III, Varanasi, employees claim the work environment has turned “toxic” and “unsafe.” Employees have accused him of humiliating staff, disrupting workflow, and creating undue pressure through erratic and unprofessional behaviour.

The complainants allege that the Regional Manager often calls meetings at irregular hours without prior notice, hampering branch operations and delaying customer service. They claim that when they attempt to prioritise customers, he reportedly responds by saying, “Bank aur customer gaye bhaad me, pahle meri meeting jaruri hai” (Forget the bank and customers, my meeting is more important).

Staff members further state that Chandra has issued threats to shut down branches and transfer staff at will, warning that no one could stop him. This is despite the fact that the Varanasi region has consistently ranked among the top performers in the last four years, earning recognition in prestigious SBI performance clubs such as Chairman’s Club, DMD Club, MD Club, CGM Club, GM Club, and DGM Club.

The letter also alleges the use of abusive terms such as “makkar” (dishonest), “stupid,” “idiot,” “nonsense,” “chutiya”, along with derogatory remarks like “suar ke bache” (pig’s child) and “tum sab ko to mai alag se dekhunga” (I will deal with you all separately). Additionally, informal and disrespectful phrases such as “daru peekar baithe ho kya” (are you sitting here drunk?) and “dudh peete bacche ho kya” (are you like milk-drinking children?) are alleged to have been directed at staff.

Employees say that such behaviour has caused significant mental stress among employees and negatively impacted productivity and discipline across branches. They argue that this conduct is in direct violation of the professional code expected from a person in a leadership role within SBI.

The staff have urged the SBI Chairman to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action to safeguard the work culture. They warn that failure to act may lead to further deterioration in morale and could tarnish the bank’s public image.

  1. Bank aur customer gaye bhaad me, pahle meri meeting jaruri hai”

The Regional Manager may be psychic and nothing else. He needs psychiatric treatment and till psychiatric issues ‘fit for duty’ certificate, he should not be allowed to resume duty.

    1. Action should be taken, for good reputation of bank employee among staff as well as public, customer is the key for any bank,no one should be priority over customer service

  2. It has been the culture practiced by hierarchy of the PSU banks of late. This must be stopped at any cost to save PSU banks staffs and officers. They already face enormous pressure serving the customers. Else oneday these affected bank people may resort to physical confrontation.

  3. Reply in the same language because ppl like him understand the same language. No action will be taken by others, we all, you have who are facing should take action. Enough of letter and suffering, take action..

It’s we V/s him.. As a team, without fear take action and we can change the prevailing situation…

  4. That fellow must be demoted to scale-3 officer and promotions should be held for 5years
Gross misconduct and mis behaviour by a Regional Manager is very shameful

  5. Iss se kuchh ni hoga. Puri management mili hoti h. Iska ek matr solution h jo bhi adhikari misbehave kre FRI lodge krwao. Or smjhouta ni krna court se punishment dilwao. Law h. desh or deptt law se chlte h gali se nhi.

  6. It’s a very big bad practice sudden meetings, being abusive in every PSU banks infact in all banks. But this is not first time, when their rank changes in bank they feel supirior and behave like stupid but who is feeding them is important. Staff shouldn’t get afraid of transfers and give them chance to play with your fear.

Even this matter will be cooled down in two months and they will be back to normal abusive behaviour.Only way you staff survive,is to throw them out of organization. Then the next abusive one will be in proper place.

  7. This are technique used by management pitching the RO head to see the outcome of their policy only. RO head and management at central office are hand in glove. Complaining to the management will not yield result. It’s like an exercise conducted to see the reactions of employees and associations. If left unchecked, more will be on the way. I don’t know why bankers are not united in such measures adopted by management. Go for a national strike on this for 2 days, down the shutters for your future working environment will be worser day by day. No government even super power will not have manpower to recruit 2 lakhs employees within a week if all bankers are terminated also. You people are very scare of losing job but remember they cannot terminate each and every employee if united.

  8. Sorry state of affairs in the primier bank of India. Off late many instances like this are coming to light. Top management should seriously take action against errant official. This type of behavior by any regional, Zonal, Network or Circle head should not be tolerated and without any dealy such officers should be transferred to other place and department.
