Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: A big news has been reported from Canara Bank. Six officials of Canara Bank, including the Deputy General Manager (DGM), have been charge-sheeted in a fraud case. Case has been filed alleging attempts to grab the property of a local businessman under the guise of loan recovery. This charge sheet has been filed in court. Earlier the case was registered four months ago following the court’s order.
The complaint was filed by businessman Yogesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Pala Road, Aligarh. He accused Canara Bank’s Regional Office DGM Ajit Kumar Jagga (resident of Chandigarh), Divisional Loan Recovery Manager Svin Verma (resident of Ramghat Road), Senior Manager Mohit Garg (resident of Jaipur), Chief Manager of the Main Branch Pramod Kumar (resident of Teacher’s Colony), and architect Neera Sharma (resident of Mathura) of being involved in the fraudulent activities.
According to Yogesh Sharma, he had taken a loan from Canara Bank’s main branch in 2016 and had mortgaged his wife’s property, valued at around ₹3 crore. He alleges that the bank undervalued the property at ₹1.75 crore. Later, the officials allegedly prepared a forged valuation report and further reduced the value to just ₹1.28 crore and initiated auction proceedings secretly.
He claimed that despite his repeated complaints and requests to revise the property’s valuation, the officials ignored him and proceeded with the auction at a much lower price. He alleged that the officials acted in collusion to sell his property at cheap rates for their benefit.
When the bank officers did not listen to him, he approached the court. He narrated the entire incident there, after which the court ordered the police to register a case against the accused. During the police investigation, another name surfaced — Ashish Sahu, a surveyor from Mathura — who was also allegedly involved. Police later confirmed that the accused officials were preparing to dispose of the property in phases at undervalued rates.
Following the investigation, police have now filed a charge sheet against all six bank officials for fraud and conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released soon.
