Central Government Employees get paid Child Care Leave upto 2 years
The employees of the central government get child care leave facility, which is a very important benefit, in today’s scenario. Female Employees get 6 months paid maternity leave and paid child care leave upto 2 years.
Child Care Leave (CCL) for Central Government employees allows eligible female and single male employees to take up to 730 days (2 years) of paid leave during their entire service to care for up to two eldest surviving children (under 18 years, or no age limit for disabled children). It is typically granted at 100% of salary for the first 365 days and 80% for the next 365 days.
Single male parents, including unmarried, widower, or divorced employees, are also eligible for CCL. Single female government employees can take CCL in six spells in a calendar year, while other eligible employees can continue taking it in a maximum of three spells in a calendar year.

The government has also replaced “Special Disability Leave for injury intentionally inflicted” with a new leave called “Work Related Illness and Injury Leave (WRIIL).” This leave can be granted to permanent or temporary government employees who suffer illness or injury during official duty or because of their official position. With the introduction of WRIIL, Special Disability Leave for accidental injury and Hospital Leave have been removed.
Under WRIIL, employees will receive full pay and allowances during the entire hospitalization period. After hospitalization, other government employees will get full pay and allowances for six months and half pay for the next twelve months. The half-pay period can be converted into full pay by using Half Pay Leave from the employee’s leave account.
Officers of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will receive full pay and allowances for six months after hospitalization and full pay for the next twenty-four months. CAPF personnel below officer rank will continue receiving full pay and allowances without any time limit. Employees covered under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 will receive reduced leave salary according to the compensation payable under the Act. No Earned Leave or Half Pay Leave will be credited during the WRIIL period.
Is Paid Child Care Leave facility also offered to Bank Employee?
Banks provides sabbatical leave facility to their employees. Female employees can take sabbatical leave upto 2 years but this leave in unpaid – means employees don’t get salary during this period. Bank employees don’t get paid child care leave as available for employees of central government.
