On 30th July 2025, the Special Judge of the CBI Court in Ghaziabad convicted and sentenced Bablu alias Ravindra Yadav, a private individual, to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 in connection with a major bank fraud case.
The case, which dates back to 2011, was initially registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 5th December 2011 following a complaint by the Assistant General Manager of State Bank of India, Meerut.
The complaint alleged that Nawal Kishore Gupta, the then Branch Manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB), Sikandrabad Branch, along with the proprietor of a private company and others, committed fraud amounting to ₹1.18 crore. This fraud was carried out by opening a fake current account using forged documents such as a fake voter ID, PAN card, and a fake rent agreement.
Following the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on 30th August 2013 against four individuals – Nawal Kishore Gupta (Branch Manager), Devraj (Security Guard, PNB), Bablu alias Ravindra Yadav (private person), and Manoj (another private person). All of them were accused of being involved in the diversion of bank funds.
While the court had already convicted and sentenced three of the accused – Nawal Kishore Gupta, Devraj, and Manoj – to five years’ imprisonment each on 20th December 2023, Bablu alias Ravindra Yadav failed to appear on the day of judgment. As a result, he was declared a Proclaimed Offender, and a Standing Warrant was issued against him by the Special CBI Court in Ghaziabad.
Since then, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Ghaziabad had been actively working to locate and arrest the absconding accused. After sustained efforts, Bablu was finally apprehended on 24th July 2025 from Gulawati in Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh.
Following his arrest, the court proceeded with the legal process and has now convicted and sentenced him in accordance with the earlier judgment.
