CBI raids UP Gramin Bank in Basti, Staff detained on complaint of Bribery

The CBI team of Lucknow raided the Makhouda Dham branch of the Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank (Baroda UP Bank) on Tuesday evening at around 5 p.m. The CBI has detained the bank manager on allegations of bribery.

Sachin Maurya, a resident of Paonwad in the Parshurampur police station area, had filed a complaint with CBI. He said that he had applied for a loan of five lakh rupees from the Bank under the Chief Minister’s Entrepreneurship Scheme. He had already received two lakh seventy-two thousand rupees.

When he contacted the bank employee, Anil, to claim the remaining amount, he was asked for a bribe of 15,000 rupees. Sachin reported the matter to the CBI in Lucknow.

After receiving the complaint, CBI team arrived at the bank with their team. They thoroughly questioned the bank manager regarding the bribery allegations. During this time, information was also gathered regarding the bank manager’s assets and other applicants.

Sources reveal that upon entering the bank branch, the CBI team instructed all employees to remain seated. Everyone then sat down wherever they were. Customers present inside were then evacuated and the bank was locked from the inside. Only the peon was allowed to bring tea and water, and even he was under surveillance.
