In a significant move under its zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested one of its own officers and seized Rs 55 lakh in cash.
The officer, identified as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B M Meena, is attached to the Bank Securities & Fraud Branch of the CBI. Meena is accused of accepting bribes from individuals involved in investigations under his charge.
The CBI conducted raids at 20 locations across Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur, and Kolkata as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials confirmed that the case involves Meena and other individuals who allegedly obtained illegal benefits from people connected to cases being handled by him.
According to the FIR, the accused officer used middlemen to channel bribe money through multiple accounts and hawala networks. The searches led to the recovery of cash worth Rs 55 lakh, which was allegedly routed through hawala channels. Additionally, property documents worth Rs 1.78 crore and financial records showing transactions of Rs 1.63 crore were found. Other incriminating documents and items were also seized during the raids.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the CBI has vowed to continue its crackdown on corruption within its ranks.
