Canara Bank Jharkhand Robbery Update: Police announce cash reward of Rs.2 Lacs for identifying bank robbers
Armed criminals had robbed a Canara Bank branch in the Golmuri police station area in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and looted approximately 42 lakh rupees. The criminals took bank employees hostage at gunpoint and forced the manager at gunpoint to open the cash vault. They looted the cash and fled from the bank.
Armed criminals entered the bank and took control of the employees. They threatened everyone with weapons and demanded silence. The criminals then led the bank manager to the chest and forced him to open it. As soon as the chest was opened, the criminals seized the cash stored inside. After collecting the money, all the criminals exited the bank and fled.
23 kg gold and Rs 43 lakh cash was robbed from the branch. To solve the case, police teams are conducting raids in several areas including Chatra, Ranchi and Palamu in Jharkhand. Police are also visiting neighbouring states – Bihar, Bengal and Odisha.
The estimated price for 23 kilograms of 24k gold in India is approximately ₹34.55 crore (₹345,529,000 INR), based on a current retail bullion rate of around ₹15,023 per gram.
According to police sources, after the robbery, the gang traveled from Golmuri via Namda Basti to Salgajuri . From there, they traveled through rural areas of the Parsudih police station area, headed towards Hata Road, and then entered the Odisha border.
A 20-member SIT has been formed under the supervision of senior police officers to solve the robbery case. Police are trying to find the criminals using CCTV footage, mobile tower locations, call detail records (CDRs).
The police have also announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each for identifying the five robbers clearly visible in the footage.
