Sonbhadra: One more death of a bank employee has shocked the entire banking community. Abbas Ahmed (33), an assistant manager at Canara Bank, was found hanging in a hotel room in Robertsganj on Tuesday night under suspicious circumstances. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide. Abbas was scheduled to get married on December 28.
Abbas Ahmed Zaidi, son of Zafar Abbas Zaidi, was a resident of Dalmandi Govindpura in Varanasi. He worked in the divisional office of Canara Bank on Maqbool Alam Road, Varanasi. On Monday, he had travelled to Sonbhadra for official work. He first visited the bank’s Parasi branch to complete some tasks and discussed opening an account at the Degree College campus. Later, he reached the Robertsganj branch, where he met the branch manager and staff. On Tuesday, he was supposed to oversee work at the Robertsganj branch.
According to reports, a recovery agent arranged his stay at a hotel in Civil Lines, Robertsganj, where he was allotted Room No. 210.
On Tuesday morning, breakfast was placed outside his room, but he did not respond. When the divisional office did not receive any update from him throughout the day, efforts were made to locate him. It was found that he had not left his room since around 12 noon. Despite repeated knocks and calls, there was no response. The matter was then reported to the Kotwali police.
Late at night, in the presence of police officials, the hotel room door was broken. Abbas Ahmed was found hanging from a black muffler inside the room. City Chief Executive Officer Randhir Mishra reached the spot and questioned bank employees. Police also recovered a suicide note from the room, which reportedly mentions about a loan. More details about the case would be revealed after a detailed investigation.
Abbas’s wedding was set for December 28. CEO Randhir Mishra said that the family has been informed, and the exact cause of death will become clear after examining the suicide note and the post-mortem report.
