Big Strike in Indian Overseas Bank on 2nd March, All Branches will remain closed
Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association (IOBOA) has announced a strike on 2nd March 2026. This fight is for the dignity and work-life balance of the officers’ community. The association had announced a strike against the toxic work culture prevailing in Banks. In return, the management attacked the dignity of the association. Some of the prevailing issues are:
- Coercive surveillance and rating mechanisms
- Arbitrary “leave denial” and “loss of pay”
- Intimidation and unprofessional review culture
- Unjust salary recoveries and penalties
- Unilateral policy changes without consultation
The management of Indian Overseas Bank has locked the office premises of the Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association (IOBOA), located within the bank’s Head Office building, by affixing an additional lock. This building, allotted by the bank itself, was the office of the association alongside the award staff union office for several decades, serving as the nerve centre for our activities, member communications, and grievance redressal.
The office staff, who arrived for their routine duties, were denied entry and forced to stand outside the premises for the entire day, enduring unnecessary hardship and humiliation. This was done without any prior notice, explanation, or opportunity for us to address any purported concerns. The association has termed it an attack on legitimate trade union activities. This has angered the officers of Indian Overseas Bank, and a big protest is scheduled in March 2026.

AIBOC has also come in support of the Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association. AIBOC GS Rupam Roy has written letters to other units, seeking their support for the strike. AIBOC has asked for support from AIBEA, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NCBE, NOBO, and NOBW.
AIBOC said: One of our major affiliates, Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association (IOBOA), is on a decisive struggle opposing the unilateral action and coercive measures adopted by the IOB Management, which strikes at the very root of the dignity and work-life balance of the officers’ community and taking off unprecedented autocratic step of locking the union office in the IOB headquarter, enjoyed by the association over decades as a retaliatory measure. We request you to extend full moral and organisational support to our agitating comrades in IOB by mobilising your entire membership in all their programmes.
