Bank Strike 27 January 2026

Bank Employees conducted a big strike on 27 January 2026, against the Government of India, demanding implementation of 5-Day Banking. The strike was conducted from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kibithu to Ghuar Mota (or Guhar Moti). Some of the glimpses of protest are given below:

Why Strike was conducted?

In 12th Bipartite Settlement, the Government of India promised to implement 5-Day Banking. Two years have passed but the Government has not fulfilled its promise. All central government departments enjoy 5-Day Banking but only banks are denied 5 day work week. The strike on 27 January 2026 was against government for not implementing 5-day banking.

#Letter) Ministry of Finance called an urgent meeting on 26 January 2026. MD&CEO of all PSU Banks attended the meeting. The government asked heads of all banks to ensure uninterrupted banking services to citizens.
