
Rudrapur: An attempted theft at Axis Bank in Awas Vikas was thwarted early Tuesday morning when police caught the accused red-handed. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the bank’s ATM on Nainital Road.
The accused, identified as Bhoop Singh from Bilaspur Rampur, broke the ATM’s shutter and attempted to access the cash by damaging the machine. When his efforts failed, he broke a window and entered the bank. A patrolling police team, alerted by the noise, reached the spot and apprehended him.
Chase and Shootout
During questioning, Bhoop Singh revealed that his accomplice, Nazim, also from Bilaspur Rampur, was waiting near Modi Maidan. The police team took Bhoop Singh there, but Nazim fled upon seeing the officers. Taking advantage of dense fog, Bhoop Singh also escaped into nearby bushes and opened fire on the police.
In the retaliatory action, Bhoop Singh was shot in the leg and apprehended. The police recovered a bag, a pistol, and empty cartridges from him. He was then taken to the district hospital for treatment.
Police Investigation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra stated that Bhoop Singh has a criminal record, including theft cases registered at Bilaspur Police Station. Efforts are underway to locate his absconding accomplice, Nazim.
