Bank of India charge sheeted 13 employees, AIBEA announces All India Strike on 28 August

The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) has declared a nationwide strike for August 28, 2024. But why? The controversy stems from a recent event in Kerala where the local unit of AIBEA honored Pervez Musharraf, the former President of Pakistan. This decision sparked strong backlash, with bank employees and various unions denouncing it as an anti-national act. BJP workers also staged protests outside the event. In response, the Bank of India issued charge-sheets to 13 employees involved in organizing the event. AIBEA is now supporting these employees and demanding the withdrawal of the charge-sheets. The association argues that the event was a routine conference where Musharraf’s name was included among other honorees, and claims that the controversy has been politicized. AIBEA has said that if the charge-sheets are not withdrawn, then All India Strike will be observed in all banks on 28 August 2024.

The National Organisation of Bank Workers and the National Organisation of Bank Officers strongly condemned the decision, labeling it as a grave insult to the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. They criticized the Bank of India Staff Union for what they perceived as an intentional slight against national pride and urged immediate action from the Finance Ministry.

Now, AIBEA has issued circular and announced All India Strike on 28 August 2024. Let us know in the comment section what you think about this incident.
