Public sector lender Bank of Baroda (BoB) has signed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as its global brand ambassador through a three-year partnership. This strategic collaboration was announced along with the launch of the bank’s first campaign featuring Sachin, titled “Play the Masterstroke.” Additionally, the bank has introduced the ‘bob Masterstroke Savings Account,’ a premium service designed for clients seeking exclusive benefits.
BoB highlighted that Sachin, a Bharat Ratna awardee, will feature in all its branding campaigns, financial literacy and fraud prevention awareness programs, and customer and employee engagement activities. His presence is expected to strengthen the bank’s outreach and appeal to a wide audience.
This is the second time Bank of Baroda has chosen a cricketing icon as its brand ambassador. Back in 2005, the bank had appointed cricketer Rahul Dravid for the role. Dravid is now a brand ambassador for Shriram Finance Ltd. BoB’s move is part of a broader trend among banks to associate with sports stars and celebrities. For example, in October 2023, the State Bank of India signed up former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador. Utkarsh Small Finance Bank also recently teamed up with legendary boxer Mary Kom and renowned footballer Sunil Chhetri as brand ambassadors.
In recent years, various banks have tapped into the popularity of sportspersons to promote their brands. AU Small Finance Bank appointed actors Aamir Khan and Kiara Advani as brand ambassadors in 2021. Currently, Bank of Baroda is also represented by badminton Olympian P.V. Sindhu, Indian cricketer Shafali Verma, and tennis player Sumit Nagal as its brand endorsers.
we Bankers are glad to read that our beloved cricketer Sachin Tendulkar nominated as global brand ambassador of BoB.
But my opinion is different in this context that can we do not become ourselves as brand ambassador by tendering best customer service.
