Bank of Baroda Officers Association announces demonstration against attack on Officer

A disturbing incident unfolded yesterday when bank officers from the Regional Office in Amritsar, who were in Pathankot for recovery-related work, were brutally attacked by miscreants. One officer sustained severe injuries after being stabbed with a knife.

Despite the swift response by the management at RO Amritsar, concerns have been raised as the local police authorities have yet to register a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the attack.

The All India Bank of Baroda Officers’ Association (AIBOBOA), Ludhiana Zone, has expressed deep frustration over the inaction. The association has urged senior authorities, including the Police Commissioner of Pathankot and the DIG of Punjab, to take immediate steps to ensure justice.

The Zonal Secretary of AIBOBOA, Rohit Kapoor, has issued a statement warning that if the FIR is not filed and the culprits are not brought to justice promptly, the association will organize a collective demonstration outside the concerned police station in Pathankot.

The association has asked all its members to remain prepared for further action, emphasizing the growing unrest among officers following this incident. More details will be released soon.

What Happened?

On February 4, 2025, a team led by Mr. Ashok Kumar, Branch Manager of Pathankot Main Branch, visited the residence of a borrower, Mr. Harwinder Singh, to discuss a recovery case. The borrower was unavailable, and the team interacted with his father, leading to an escalation of verbal hostility. Sensing potential danger, the team decided to leave the premises. However, they were ambushed and attacked while returning to their branch.

The attackers, reportedly armed with metal rods and iron bars, inflicted severe injuries on Mr. Kanav Sharma, who sustained deep cuts on his hand, face, and jaw. He was immediately taken to the Government Civil Hospital, Pathankot, for medical attention. Other team members narrowly escaped physical harm but reported the theft of personal belongings, including a gold chain and wallet.
