Murder Case Background

Sachin Upadhyay, who worked as a manager in Bank of India, was murdered in his own house in October 2023. He was the son-in-law of lawyer Bijendra Rawat, the President of the Agra Collectorate Bar Association. According to the police investigation, Priyanka, her father Bijendra, and her brother Krishna brutally assaulted Sachin, burned him with a hot iron rod, and attacked his private parts with sticks, leading to his death. Initially, the case was reported as a suicide, but when Sachin’s family raised doubts and the postmortem report was released, it clearly confirmed that the death was due to murder, not suicide. Based on this, a case was registered at the Tajganj police station.

The Dispute Behind the Crime

Sachin had married Priyanka Rawat nine years ago. After the marriage, his family arranged a house for them in the city. However, frequent quarrels occurred between the couple, especially when Sachin visited his parents in the village. The dispute worsened when Sachin’s father applied for a petrol pump license in the name of his younger son. Priyanka and her family were angered by this decision and allegedly began to pressure Sachin for money and property.

According to the police, on October 11, 2023, when Sachin returned home from the village, Priyanka called her father and brother. The three then allegedly tied Sachin up, beat him brutally, and burned him with a hot iron rod, causing his death.

Lies After the Murder

After killing Sachin, Priyanka and her brother Krishna tried to make it appear like a suicide. They even called Sachin’s father and said he was “sleeping after a fight.” When family members arrived the next day, they found Sachin’s body in a pool of blood. Although the bedsheets were washed, blood stains were still visible. The family protested and demanded a postmortem, which confirmed it was a murder. The police arrested Krishna Rawat on October 20, and Priyanka and Bijendra on October 29, 2023, from Prayagraj.

The Court Verdict

After a two-year-long legal battle, the case was heard in the court of Additional District Judge (ADJ-17) Nitin Thakur. Based on the statements of 18 witnesses and solid evidence, the court convicted Priyanka and Krishna of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Bijendra Rawat was sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement.

Victim’s Father to Appeal in High Court

Sachin’s father, Keshav Dev Sharma, said he is not satisfied with the judgment and will challenge it in the High Court. He said, “I wanted the culprits to be hanged. My son loved us deeply, but his in-laws were greedy. They tortured and killed him for money. My fight for justice will continue.”
