In a significant development, an assistant manager at the Central Bank of India, located in the Lanka police station area of Varanasi, has been accused of embezzling ₹8.26 lakh. The case has come to light following a court order, leading to an official complaint being filed at the local police station. The Lanka police have now begun their investigation into the matter.

The Incident

Alankar Kumar Verma, the branch manager of the Central Bank of India, reported that the accused, Rohit Kumar Singh, who works as an assistant manager at the branch, allegedly siphoned off ₹8.26 lakh. Singh, a resident of the Baburi police station area in Chandauli, is accused of defrauding various account holders without the branch manager’s authorization.

Complaints and Investigation

According to the branch manager, multiple account holders had been complaining about irregularities in their accounts. These complaints triggered an internal investigation, which revealed that Singh had indeed misappropriated the funds. Despite attempts to file a police report at the Lanka police station throughout 2022, the case was not taken seriously at that time. Consequently, the bank was forced to approach the court for intervention.

Legal Action

Following the court’s intervention, a case has been formally registered against Rohit Kumar Singh under relevant legal sections. The Lanka police have now taken charge of the investigation, aiming to uncover the full extent of the alleged embezzlement and hold those responsible accountable.
