AIPNBOF GS Krishna Kumar Raises Concern Over Long Working Hours in PLP and MCC Offices
AIPNBOF General Secretary Krishna Kumar has raised serious concerns about the working conditions of Punjab National Bank officers across the country. He shared his observations on social media after completing a three-day visit to Madhya Pradesh.
During his visit, Krishna Kumar said he went to a PLP (PNB Loan Processing) office where the situation was disturbing. He observed that all officers posted in the office, including female officers, were working diligently until 7:30 PM. He also noted that the Circle President of the majority officers’ association was posted in the same PLP and was also working until 7:30 PM.
Officers Forced to Work 90–180 Minutes Extra Daily
According to Krishna Kumar, in most PLP and MCC (Mid Corporate Centre) offices across the country, officers are forced to work an additional 90 to 180 minutes every day.
He said that when officers are advised to leave the office by 6 PM, they respond that it is not possible because the workload is very high. They explain that to clear pending work, they have to sit late every day. Many officers have also complained that their offices are understaffed and suffering from severe staff shortage.
Burnout Becoming a Serious Issue
Krishna Kumar stated that continuous late working hours are leading to burnout among officers. He warned that if this issue is not addressed immediately, it could have serious and harmful consequences for the bank.
He emphasized that prolonged late sitting is neither in the interest of the bank nor in the interest of the colleagues working in such offices and branches.
He has urged the bank management to take the matter seriously and address the issues of staff shortage and excessive workload to protect the health and well-being of officers.
When we inquired, we found out this to be true. PLP, MCC and even a lot of branches of Punjab National Bank are closing late around 8 and 9 pm.
As per reports, some MCC have also asked their staff to work on coming holidays i.e. 14 and 15 Feb (Saturday and Sunday) and 28 Feb (Saturday).

Bank Employees are demanding 5-Day Banking but on the other side, working on holidays is becoming very common. The Govt of India and Banks should look into this.
