AIPNBOF General Secretary Krishna Kumar has strongly reacted to the decision to defer the proposed bank strike, expressing disappointment over the manner in which the decision was taken. In his message, he said that he was not feeling well last night and went to sleep early without having dinner. He woke up a little late in the morning and found around 20 missed calls. Soon after, he received what he described as the “terrible news” that the strike had been deferred in the name of a High Power Committee.

Krishna Kumar said that the development had made him question the continuation of AIPNBOF with AIBOA and UFBU. He stated that AIPNBOF should leave AIBOA and UFBU and said that the decision would be taken immediately. He also expressed his frustration by saying that otherwise, “nothing will happen.”

He further alleged that important decisions affecting bank employees were being taken during the late hours of the night. Referring to earlier developments, he mentioned the MOU dated December 7, 2023, and the Joint Note dated March 8, 2024, alleging that both were finalised during the night. He said that once again, in the darkness of last night, a decision had been taken which, according to him, had betrayed the interests of around eight lakh bank employees.

Krishna Kumar also said that some people had predicted even yesterday evening that the strike would be called off. However, he said that he had categorically maintained that the strike would not be called off this time and that it would become a historic strike. He expressed his disappointment by saying that he ultimately felt he had been made a “fool” by what he described as the “seven musketeers” of the banking trade union movement.

The message reflects strong dissatisfaction within a section of the banking trade union leadership over the decision to defer the proposed strike and raises questions about the future participation of AIPNBOF in AIBOA and UFBU.
