AIBOC Requests Holiday for Banks in Uttar Pradesh on 21 October 2025
The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Uttar Pradesh State Unit, has submitted a request to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to declare October 21, 2025 (Tuesday) as a public holiday for all banks in Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, banks are closed only on 20, 22, 23 October.
In its letter, AIBOC highlighted that Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals across India. The main celebration will take place on October 20, and the following day, October 21, is observed as Annakoot Puja or Govardhan Puja, which also holds deep religious and cultural importance.
The Confederation mentioned that many bank officers and employees work in different parts of the country and travel long distances to be with their families during Diwali. Since the celebrations continue late into the night, it becomes difficult for employees to resume duty the very next morning. Declaring a holiday on October 21 would enable them to observe the festival peacefully with their families and return to work refreshed.
Diwali is not only a festival of lights but also a celebration of togetherness, positivity, and renewal. It symbolizes victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Allowing a holiday after Diwali would reflect sensitivity towards the cultural and emotional values associated with this important festival. Such a decision would also strengthen social harmony and promote a healthy work-life balance among employees.
The letter, signed by Mr. Lakshman Singh, Secretary, AIBOC Uttar Pradesh State Unit, expressed hope that the state government would take a positive decision and declare October 21, 2025, as a state holiday for banks.
