After SBI, PNB opens Branch in Pherzawl Manipur; Senvon gets its 1st Branch
Punjab National Bank (PNB) – India’s leading public sector bank, has opened its first branch in Senvon village in Manipur.
Recently, State Bank of India (SBI) had set up a branch in Parbung, and now PNB has opened its branch in Senvon. This marks the district’s second bank branch.
Senvawn (or Senvon) is a historic Hmar village in the Pherzawl district of Manipur, Northeast India. It is situated in a hilly region, approximately 260 km from Churachandpur town.

Pherzawl is a tough location with limited connectivity
Pherzawl is around 250 km from Imphal. Pherzawl is one of the least developed districts in Manipur. Pherzawl is a district in southern Manipur, India, created on December 8, 2016, by carving out areas from Churachandpur district.
Located near the Assam and Mizoram borders, it is known for its hilly terrain, the Tipaimukh Dam project, and significant ginger production. The district headquarters is Pherzawl, and it consists of three main sub-divisions: Thanlon, Tipaimukh-Parbung, and Vangai Range. Pherzawl District has approximately 200 villages.
This district does not have train or flight connectivity. A bus service running between Imphal and Pherzawl began in 2017. The district has one Community Health Centre (CHC) at Parbung. Nearest airport to Pherzawl is Imphal Tulihal International Airport and next Airport is Dimapur Airport, around 450 km from Pherzawl.
Nearest Railway station to Pherzawl is Dimapur town of Nagaland which is around 450 km from Pherzawl. Another railhead is Jiribam town of Manipur which is 225Km from Imphal, around 500 km from Pherzawl.
Inauguration of PNB Branch in Senvon Pherzawl
The branch was inaugurated by MLA Ngursanglur Sanate following an opening prayer by Pastor Timothy Pulamte.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA termed the initiative a landmark step for residents of Senvon and nearby villages who have long struggled due to the lack of banking facilities, and credited coordinated efforts for making the branch a reality.
Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS, described the opening as a “historic achievement,” noting that the district can now move beyond its unbanked status.
People in Senvon will get access to Banking which will subsequently boost the economy of the district. Public Sector Banks are important for India and provide a lot of business products to people such as low interest loans, government schemes, which are essential for growth of a region.
