Two officers of Punjab & Sind Bank’s Bhogpur branch (B0084) were brutally assaulted by a borrower and his associates during a loan recovery visit in Jalandhar on October 28, 2026. The police has registered an FIR in this case.
What Officers said in FIR
My name is Manish Kumar, son of Krishan Lal, resident of Ganga Nagar, village Chahartiwala, under the jurisdiction of the Ganga Nagar Police Station, District Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. I am 32 years old, and my mobile number is 7597828329.
I state that I work as an officer at Punjab and Sind Bank, in the Agricultural Credit/Field Officer department.
On 28 October 2026, Bank Manager Raj Kamal called Bhupinder Singh on his mobile number 98556-52126. However, Bhupinder Singh did not answer the call.
At approximately 3:00 PM, I was travelling in an official vehicle bearing registration number PB-08-ES-1638, along with the bank manager, towards the village of Raipur. When we reached Bhupinder Singh’s agricultural land, Bhupinder Singh was not present there.
We called Bhupinder Singh again and asked him about his whereabouts. He told us that his father had died and asked us to come back at approximately 6:30 PM.
At around 6:30 PM, we reached the location indicated by Bhupinder Singh. However, he was not there. We then contacted a person associated with his family and asked about his whereabouts.
We were informed that Bhupinder Singh was at his house. When we reached his house, we found that the gate was open and Bhupinder Singh was sitting inside.
Bhupinder Singh appeared to be angry with us. As soon as he saw us, he started abusing us in vulgar language.
We tried to speak to him, but he did not listen. He began saying that we had come to take possession of his land and were trying to get it auctioned.
Bhupinder Singh then went inside his house and returned after some time carrying a stick and other items. He continued abusing us and behaved aggressively. We tried to leave the premises, but the situation became tense. Bhupinder Singh allegedly attacked us and attempted to cause us harm.

Questions raised over safety of staff
A few weeks ago, two branch managers of Punjab & Sind Bank had committed suicide, alleging toxic work culture. Now, this incident has again raised the question of staff security in Bank.
Shri Raj Kamal, Senior Manager, and Shri Manish Kumar, Agriculture Field Officer, both posted at the Bhogpur branch, were following up on the recovery of dues from M/s New Harjaap Material, a PNPA account. The officers had reportedly made repeated efforts to recover the outstanding amount, but no recovery had been made.
The officers visited the proprietor’s premises after working hours following verbal instructions from the Regional Office to pursue the recovery. During the visit, the proprietor allegedly refused to cooperate, used abusive language and called his associates. The proprietor and his associates then assaulted both officers, leaving them seriously injured.
Following the incident, both officers were admitted to CHS Kala Bakra Hospital in Jalandhar for treatment.
