Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has started the process of returning around ₹46 lakh to approximately 100 customers whose claims were found to be valid in an alleged multi-crore rupee embezzlement case involving a Bank Mitra at the bank’s Jalalabad branch. The Bank Mitra, identified as Ankur Saini, is accused of being involved in financial irregularities affecting several customers.

Around 300 customers had filed complaints against the Bank Mitra, alleging that the money they deposited through him was not credited to their bank accounts. Several customers claimed that the transactions were either missing from their account statements or did not match the entries recorded in their passbooks. They demanded that the bank investigate the matter and return their money.

Following the complaints, PNB officials launched an investigation to verify the claims made by the customers. As part of the investigation, the bank examined relevant documents, transaction details and other available evidence. Officials also reviewed CCTV footage from the past six months and compared it with statements from the people involved to verify which transactions had taken place inside the bank premises.

Senior officer of PNB posted in Circle Office R.L. Das said that the claims of around 100 customers had been found to be valid during the investigation. According to him, approximately ₹46 lakh has been credited to the accounts of these customers. The final payment process will be completed after the verification of all relevant documents and transactions is finished.

However, the bank has not accepted all the complaints received so far. The claims of customers whose allegations could not be substantiated during the investigation have not been included in the current reimbursement process. According to bank officials, there was insufficient evidence to establish that the disputed transactions had taken place within the bank premises. The bank has also declined to accept responsibility for transactions conducted outside its premises.

Out of approximately 300 customers who filed complaints, the claims of around 100 have been accepted so far. The remaining complainants are seeking an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities and the return of their money.

The case has raised concerns among customers who conducted banking transactions through the Bank Mitra. The remaining customers are awaiting further action from the bank and want their complaints to be examined fairly so that their claims can also be resolved.
