A major controversy has erupted involving Sanjeev Kumar, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Patiyali in the Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh, following the viral spread of a hidden-camera video.
What is the controversy?
Bribery Allegations: In the viral video, the BDO is allegedly seen demanding a 10% commission to clear payments for local government development works.
He claims in the video that out of the 10% commission, 3% to 4% is distributed upward to high-ranking district officials, explicitly naming the District Magistrate (DM), Chief Development Officer (CDO), and District Development Officer (DDO).
He is also seen using abusive language, threatening to send the person he is speaking with to jail, and pressuring them for a flat ₹1 lakh bribe.
Official Action & Investigation
Following the administrative panic caused by the video, Kasganj Chief Development Officer (CDO) Virendra Kumar Singh took immediate note of the matter and ordered a strict, impartial investigation into the corruption allegations.
BDO’s Defense
BDO Sanjeev Kumar has strongly denied all allegations, claiming the video is part of a conspiracy to frame him. According to Kumar, he recently issued official notices to local Village Development and Panchayat officers (specifically naming Rajesh Kumar, Sandeep Yadav, and Anil Kumar) for embezzling government funds. He asserts that the video was manipulated or orchestrated by those under investigation to force him to back down.
